The project examines the extent to which the course of school districts and school catchment areas can be optimized in order to minimize the effects of social and ethnic residential segregation on segregation between schools. In addition to quantitative evaluations, expert interviews will be conducted on current structures and practices.
The project examines the use of planning instruments with regard to the “Just City” in Birmingham, Lyon and Zurich – from the 1990s to the present day. The focus is on the enabling actors, procedures and democratic institutions.
