Democracy, political education and history didactics

Good, up-to-date teaching in history and political education, or in space, time, and society (RZG), requires continuous development of teaching methods. Questions about initiating and promoting subject-specific learning are accompanied by questions about the conditions, contexts, and challenges of dealing with interdisciplinary and cross-curricular topics; the impact of education is also a recurring focus. As the center of the FHNW School of Education, we fulfill a fourfold mandate in teaching and continuing education, research, development, and service. Our work straddles the fields of theory, empiricism, and pragmatism, and we contribute to the ongoing academic discussion by publishing the open-access journal Historical Thinking, Culture, and Education (HTCE). Up-to-date learning materials based on new scientific findings and reflections on subject didactics form the basis for high-quality teaching in a subject area that is constantly changing.
