The digital space opens up new opportunities for online political participation among youth and adults and represents a significant context for socialization in the political sphere. This research project examines the forms and contexts of online political participation among Swiss youth using media diaries and problem-centered interviews. Based on empirical data, young people and experts are collaborating to develop approaches to digital citizenship education for schools and community-based child and youth services.

This ethnographically oriented study uses instructional videos to examine, among other things, how the children and adults involved in civic education lessons address each other, which dialogues of origin play a role and how natio-ethno-cultural lines of difference are introduced and addressed.
The findings of this study will allow a more precise definition of the potentials and challenges of civic education as currently envisaged in Curriculum 21.
