Excellent master’s thesis!
Our doctoral student Mara Labud has won an award for her master’s thesis! With her thesis titled «Contesting Direct Democracy in Court: Practice and Driving Factors of Swiss Direct Democratic Decision-Making Litigation,» she won the award for the best master’s thesis at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Zurich.
She examined how often referendums in Switzerland are challenged in court and with what degree of success. This question has not yet been systematically studied, and Mara’s master’s thesis is the first to address it. To this end, Mara Labud analyzed all national and cantonal referendums between 2018 and 2025, as well as 243 related court decisions. We extend our heartfelt congratulations on this award!
